A Day In The Life
If you’ve visited New Albany, you’re definitely familiar with the pristine lawns, brick homes, picket fences, and overall perfection. Well, one thing we didn’t realize is that New Albany is a total mecca of home design and décor! The town is charming and the food is delish, but the home shopping…amazing.
We kicked our New Albany tour off with a trip to Oakland Nursery, which is a cross between a plant shop and World Market. You can find an amazing selection of cacti, succulents, and air plants, while the adjacent space has every knickknack you didn’t need but now that you’ve seen it…you totally want. They also have a huge selection of pots — and super on-trend macramé — that is pretty darn fantastic.
A little closer to town sits a cute home turned boutique called Vintage Restyled. It’s the perfect one-stop shop for a gift for any occasion. They have hand-selected their eclectic inventory, which includes jewelry, mugs, kitchen accessories, chalkboard paint for your DIY projects, prints and so much more. You are guaranteed to find a gem to take home for a friend…or yourself.
Right across the street is Bungalow Home: think Restoration Hardware with a twist. Their selection of furniture is one-of-a-kind, both refined and eclectic, with items for any taste in décor. It’s an open atmosphere featuring a blend of furniture, clothing, and jewelry. Not to mention that the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. You could easily get lost there for an hour or two while shopping for that statement piece for your home.
We wrapped things up with lunch at SoulShine Tavern and Kitchen, a funky joint featuring locally sourced ingredients with an upscale twist. Inspired by the Allman Brothers song of the same name, music is a huge part of their dining experience. You can find snippets of lyrics in elegant frames in the entryway, on a hand-painted mural in the dining area, and, of course, rocking out through the sound system. Good tunes, good eats, and an all-around good time. If you’ve been searching for a twist on the traditional sammy and fries, this spot will make your mouth water.
The next time you find yourself on the near east side of town, make sure to check out a few of our local favorites.
