A Day In The Life
This neighborhood is the perfect blend of urban and suburban. Perched just North of downtown Columbus and sprawling from Glen Echo Ravine to East Selby Blvd, Clintonville is rich in history and a top recreational hub with four stunning ravines. Once serving as a stop in the Underground Railroad, Clintonville is a collection of varying enclaves and underlying neighborliness. With farmer’s markets, parks, community gardens… one thing’s for sure, Clintonville really does has something for everyone.
Our first stop, a quaint farmhouse-like cafe that will have you reminiscing on the simple pleasures of life. Beauty, sustenance, and good conversation.. aka flowers, bread, and a good cup-o-joe delve into old world traditions of bread baking, flower arranging, and good coffee brewing. Flowers & Bread is the perfect gathering place and work space. Offering a variety of classes, you can learn the art that is baking with a plethora of breads, tarts, and pastries... you can bet there’s always something delicious to make.
Considered a Clintonville landmark, the Whetstone Park of Roses was created in 1953 and is a 13 acre-plot showcasing over 13,000 roses- a true slice of heaven. The garden reaches peak blooming time in the month of June, and visiting the park during the Rose Festival has become a tradition for Ohioans statewide. To this day, the park is one of the largest municipal rose gardens in the U.S.
Offering an eclectic collection of home furnishings, accessories, and decor, Elm & Iron pays homage to those one of a kind finds. Think galvanized-industrial with a cross of rustic-glitz. Launched in 2012 this boutique offers a twist on the modern appreciation for vintage finds– you’re sure to find something new with every visit that’s unique to your city.
Just South on N High Street is one of our favorite jewelry boutiques, ONE SIX FIVE Jewelry. With the most adorable window displays... you won’t be able to pass it without taking a peek. Offering high quality, earrings, rings, and necklaces ONE SIX FIVE takes a minimal approach to modern jewelry with each piece being made by hand in their store. Simple & dainty, yet packing a punch of style.. take home a set of alphabet earrings or a personally designed notebook with a splash of art on the cover.
A car wash in it’s past life, we made a pit stop at Lineage Brewing, focused on the tradition of craft beer by expanding on old school tradition. Lineage is a culmination of years of experimentation and creativity which started in homebrewing.
Sticking to its origin, the brewery is all about creating a fun social gathering– you’ll find the garage doors are open when the weather is nice. Be sure to try a classic American Pilsner the Cardinal Crusher, or a Scottish Ale- Willy McLane with a side of garlic peanuts.
Whether you're visiting from out of town or just looking to fill a Saturday, Clintonville offers plenty to explore!
