Creating The Perfect Oasis

Since you flexed your DIY muscles last month and created patio furniture on a budget, it’s time for us to share our list of must haves for the perfect backyard ambiance. We’re teetering on the precipice of summer, so it’s high time to create the perfect oasis for soaking in some vitamin D.

When it comes to the backyard, there are a few essential things to consider:

STRING LIGHTS

It’s all about ambiance. You want your backyard to be functional during the day and at night. Rope lights are a great choice for lighting that adds a rustic touch while providing a soft, even glow. These lights are versatile for any setup, and can be strung parallel to each other for a unified look, or crossed to create more dimension.

COZY SEATING

Having the right outdoor seating is a necessity during the summer months. This doesn’t mean spending thousands on patio furniture. If you haven’t already, check out our tutorial from last month about using pallets to create custom furniture. It’s a budget-friendly option for entertaining guests!

FIRE PIT

Fire brings people together…or maybe it’s s’mores? Either way, a fire pit will bring the heat to chilly summer nights. Go with a portable option for smaller spaces, or make your own with layers of bricks. It’s a low-maintenance feature that adds another layer of relaxation and fun to your backyard.

WOOD ACCENTS

Wood accents add a neutral touch to your space. It’s another budget-friendly way to incorporate modern style. We’ve used tree trunks for end tables or seating. Adding a wooden accent wall to the sides of your patio adds privacy and dimension in a fashionable way. You can transform it into a living wall by adding some plants or growing vines vertically on the wall.

PLANT DECOR

Oh, yeah, there are always plants. This could be a full garden, or a few potted cuties to spruce up your outdoor space. They could be the centerpiece for the table, stacked along the steps, or a corner accent piece. Plants are inexpensive and are a bright and earthy addition to any décor.
